Join us at The Soiree!
“What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured.” - Kurt Vonnegut
Nice sentiment, but what does that have to do with independent businesses?
Everything! From our perspective, that is.
Independent businesses offer a “third place” - somewhere outside of the home, or outside of work, for people to connect. A local coffee shop, like Grounds for Coffee, is a great example of this third place. As more and more independent businesses offer opportunities for jewelry making classes, or cheese pairings, or terrarium building classes, these local businesses are creating opportunities for people to connect with one another, in our increasingly isolated, internet driven society. Plus, communities with strong local businesses, have increased civic engagement, higher rates of volunteerism and higher voter turnout.
It’s with this in mind, that Local First Utah launches The Soiree, our seasonal get together for independent business owners and locally minded citizens. On April 4th, we’ll be at The Stockist in the 9th & 9th neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Join us for hand crafted cocktails from Salt City Vodka, delicious bites from neighborhood eateries, and plenty of good company.
