Humble Hero Spotlight: Church & State Business Incubator

On the corner of 400 South and 300 East, sits a simple, brown, brick building. For a century and change, long before the Trax trains rumbled by, and likely before the grand boulevard of 400 South was a paved road, this humble brick building has served the Salt Lake City community as a welcoming gathering place.

While the building was formerly home to Central Christian Church, you won’t hear Sunday sermons ringing off these walls any longer. However, since 2014 Church & State has specialized in “economic evangelism,” fulfilling their role in the community as a “business incubator with a purpose.”

That purpose is to deliver not only a comfortable, inviting, hip environment to the 50 or so start ups and local businesses that operate out of Church & State, but also to provide mentorship, professional development and and connections to financing, marketing, and more!

“The staff here are true partners in our success.” said Mitch Sears, owner and manager of Bison Head Media, one of the independent businesses that operates out of Church & State. “The warm and friendly staff are constantly promoting our work, networking on our behalf. You can tell that they sincerely want each and every member to succeed, and they work hard to make that happen.”

Church & State keeps their doors open to the business community, providing use of their coworking space for free Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm. Also, Church & State provides a variety of membership levels and benefits; including a monthly co-working membership, a dedicated desk option, and office space rentals. Each membership provides 24/7 access to their space, free use of their conference rooms, access to high speed wi-fi, free admission to Church & State events, and Church & State’s quarterly Munch & Mingle networking lunches.

Local First Utah is hosting our Indie Business Academy at Church & State, with three more classes scheduled for this year. Additionally, Church & State members receive 20% discount on membership with Local First Utah. Email Kristen@localfirst.org if you are a Church & State Member and would like to join Local First Utah.

We are is delighted to have Church & State as member of Local First Utah. They truly are the epitome of a “humble hero.” Join us on March 21st at the next Church & State Munch & Mingle!
