Make the Local Gift Shift

FACTS

If the two million households in Utah shifted 10% of their annual budget to Local Independents we would see extraordinary results:

  • Expanded Job Creation — Create 20,000 new jobs created which would decrease the Utah unemployment rate by nearly 1%
  • Economic Growth — Generate over $2 billion of increased economic activity in Utah
  • Entrepreneurial Ventures — Inspire the formation of thousands of new entrepreneurial ventures
  • Environment Protected — Decrease thousands of tons of greenhouse gas emissions used for shipping imported goods
  • Enhanced Communities — Revitalize local Utah communities with our own unique, independent communities and neighborhoods.

By simply shifting 10% of your Holiday gift budget from big-box chain stores to your favorite local boutiques and shops, you generate more new jobs, boost independent business, get unique gifts, and best of all, keep three times more of your hard-earned money in your own community!

We've just started our shopping, and so far have spent about 65% at local businesses! I have a few other things to pick up, and look forward to visiting several other local shops in the next few days. Anyone know where I can find fuzzy slippers?

I don't buy a lot of presents, in general. To me the spirit of the holidays is not captured in material goods. But, I typically make homemade presents for friends -- and I pledge to buy the ingredients and materials locally!
